The Dove has been a "horse" pub for many years. The previous landlord, Fred Elby, kept horses and the present landlord, Roger Roper, has continued the tradition. Seen here are The Dove Shires at The Royal Norfolk Show in 1998. In the driving seat is Roger Roper with groom, Paul Utting, holding the Shires. The pair are pulling a 1912 millers dray in the Dove livery.

Sadly the Shires have both died. Richard, on the left, died in 2007 aged 20, and Fred died in 2005 aged 22. (Pic.Roger Roper).

The Shires were replaced by these magnificent animals - the Percherons. Originally imported from Canada by the St.Michaels Stud, Warwickshire they took up residence at The Dove in 2006. The horses attend many County Shows all over the country under the name "Dove Percherons". They are entered in driving classes as singles, pairs, "unicorn" three, and as a four team. They have been very successful and in 2007 won the over all Championship at the East of England Show at Peterborough. In 2008 they won the team class at the Royal Norfolk Show and also Bonner won over all at the Championship of Suffolk Show. The Team are seen here at the Newark and Notts County Show in 2009 with Ronald Brewster at the reins. The Team;from left - right, Edward age 10, Jim age 8 , Bonner age 14 and Art age 14.
