Training Information and RCR Training Policies


CITI Program

CITI Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative provides tutorials on responsible conduct of research (RCR), human subjects, animal care and use, biosafety, and other issues in research ethics. The CITI training can be used to satisfy PSU's human subjects training requirements and RCR requirements, although some NIH grants have additional RCR face to face training requirements.

To access CITI:

  1. Access the site at www.citiprogram.org
  2. Click on New Users Register Here
  3. Select PSU from the Participating Institutions drop down menu
  4. Create username and password and pick the learner group
  5. After you are registered, pick the applicable learner group.


Human Subjects Research Training (IRB)

Faculty, staff and students conducting human subjects research must complete human subjects research training available via the CITI Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. Effective January 2014, IRB applications will not be processed without certification of human subjects research training. 

1. Access the site at www.citiprogram.org
2. Click on New Users Register Here
3. Select PSU from the Participating Institutions drop down menu
4. Create username and password.
5. Complete the Social Behavioral Responsible Conduct of Research and the Social Behavioral Research Basic/Refresher modules.
6. Training is valid for three years, after which a training refresher/renewal course must be completed.

As an alternative, PSU will accept the NIH Human Subjects Protections Training. Training must be completed within the last three years.

 
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
 
RCR training can also be done via CITI Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. Some NIH grants have additional face to face training requirements; please review the NIH RCR policy for information.

2. Click on New Users Register Here
3. Select PSU from the Participating Institutions drop down menu
4. Create username and password and pick the RCR learner group
5. After you are registered, pick the RCR learner group.

Animal Research Training (IACUC)

Faculty, staff and students conducting animal research are recommended to complete the IACUC research training available via the CITI Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. Instructions on how to access the IACUC training modules: 

1. Access the site at www.citiprogram.org
2. Click on New Users Register Here
3. Select PSU from the Participating Institutions drop down menu
4. Create username and password.
5. Choose courses/modules that reflect your specific work in animal research: 
  • The recommended course includes: Working with the IACUC
  • Some of the following options may be applicable to your research: Reducing Pain and Distress in Laboratory Mice and Rats, Working with Amphibians / Gerbils / Guinea Pigs / Hamsters / Mice / Rats / Rabbits in Research Settings, and/or Aseptic surgery modules.
Training materials are also available through the AALAS training modules.
