Jeff Smith

Jeff's undergrad experience had him focusing on dendroecology in forests all around Oregon! While most recently he has helped collect and process tree ring data from the Santiam state forest, he has also helped on the Blue Mountains fire history project led by Masters student Laura Platt. His own research was done on the urban trees of Portland, OR, and looked at the interaction of the Urban Heat Island on the phenology of two maple species.

Beyond studying and supporting research on the forests he grew up in, Jeff has a passion for exploring the outdoors, whether it be through rock climbing, backpacking, mountaineering, or the occasional river rafting trip. He hopes to continue to support the research efforts to restore and protect the forests and wilderness he has gained so much from, and help increase the safety of the communities and people who call them home!
