Alec is a Geospatial Data Scientist with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences from Oregon State University, and he is currently pursuing an MS degree in Geography at Portland State University. He is interested in studying the spatial and temporal patterns of natural hazards to discover their influences on socio-ecological systems by applying methods in landscape ecology, geographic information systems, remote sensing, and machine learning. Alec’s master thesis is focused on using remotely-sensed and field-based observations to identify the multi-scalar, spatio-temporal patterns and drivers of post-fire delayed tree mortality following large, severe wildfires in the western Oregon Cascades. When away from his computer, Alec enjoys hiking, camping, and disc golfing with his friends and family.
