Originally from Russia, Dmitri immigrated to the United States at a young age and attended the University of California - Santa Cruz, graduating with a B.S. in Earth Sciences. As part of his undergraduate studies, he spent two months backpacking in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, Alaska, as part of a team assessing human impacts and preparing backcountry management recommendations for the National Park Service. After spending more than a decade outside of academia, Dmitri began work at Portland State University toward a B.S. in Geography in the Fall of 2016. He has been volunteering at the Global Environmental Change lab since December 2016 and is excited to expand his work into original research, with an eye toward graduate school. Outside of the lab, he enjoys hiking, reading, and always learning new things."
