- Fact and Opinion:
-FACTS - can be proved true or false by reading, observing, or asking an expert
-OPINIONS - are judgments or beliefs. They cannot be proved true or false, but they can be supported by facts and logic
- Sometimes one statement expresses both a fact and an opinion.
- Questioning: ask questions before, during, and after you read to better understand what you are reading. Record questions as you develop them. Make a note when you find information that answers your questions.
- Suffixes: -ly, -ous - add meaning to the base word.
- ly means - "a characteristic of"
- ous means - "having much" or "full of"
- Accuracy - when you read and you come to a word you do not recognize, stop and try to figure out its meaning from context clues. Then go back to reading at your original pace. Sometimes it is important to read more slowly in order to be accurate.
