Effective citizenship in a democracy requires tools for understanding the world around us. Including events in the past that helped to shape our world today. Misinformation used in society often relies on skewing or erasing history to achieve its purpose. Knowing history helps to see through this tactic. Like looking in mirror to understand our own appearance, studying places that are far away in time and space helps us appreciate other cultures and understand our ourselves better. Studying old dead guys offer us a way to improve our skills and become better citizens. This class focuses on the citizenship skills of critical reasoning, research ability, world geography, and ancient history. It also includes important lessons in civics and other areas of the social sciences.
