Vision screening is an integral component of health promotion and disease prevention strategies used in the health office. The goal of the screening program is to prevent amblyopia when possible and detect refractive errors and other eye conditions that can impact the child's ability to learn.
Impaired vision in children can also:
Lead to poor self-esteem and social isolation
Result in emotional and behavioral issues
Cause headaches and other health issues
Screening and identifying students for referral occurs biennially in grades K-10. If your child is referred for further evaluation, you will receive a form for your opthamologist to complete. Please make sure you return the completed form to me.
I also talk with the children about how eyes work. The video on the right is a good resource for you to share with your child.
