Chris Khoury

Chris Khoury graduated from Yale College, Duke Medical School, and University of Colorado Psychiatric Residency. He had a private practice in adult psychiatry in Escondido beginning in 1979, and retired in 2020. He is married, has two adult children, and three grandchildren.

His long standing love and appreciation for the San Diego environment intensified during his docent training for the San Dieguito River Park in 1994. He has been on the Board of Directors of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy since 1997 and served as president from 1999-2002. As the Land Acquisition Chair for the Conservancy, he led the Conservancy’s efforts in many successful land acquisitions, including the Santa Ysabel East and West Preserves, parcels on Volcan Mountain, Corral Mountain, Bernardo Mountain, and Lake Sutherland East.

In addition, he was elected chair of the Citizens Advisory Committee of the River Park in 2022 and now sits on the JPA Board of Directors.

In 2002, he was the guide in the Del Mar TV Foundation video “A Walk in the Park”. This introduction to the San Dieguito River Valley has entertained channel-surfing insomniacs for years.

With his wife, Linda Corey, he initiated the Exploring Our Sense of Place program in the San Dieguito River Park. This program is designed to nourish the hearts and minds of the participants in a year-long series of presentations and hikes.

For his environmental contributions, he has been recognized by State of California, County of San Diego, the Cities of San Diego and Escondido, and the San Dieguito River Park.
