Jeffery Pasek (he prefers "JP") is a native San Diegan and is a lifelong resident of the San Diego area. He is a graduate of San Diego State University where he studied geology and evolutionary biology.
JP's work with San Diego' water and wastewater systems spans more than forty years. With the City of San Diego he was employed as Project Officer for the Pure Water San Diego program, served as Watershed Manager, was the Senior Biologist in the City's Water Quality Laboratory, and has worked as a reservoir biologist, lake ranger, and resident reservoir keeper. His work with the water andwastewater systems ramped down in 2022. He fully retired in mid-2025.
JP serves on the board of Directors of the San Diego River Park Foundation. He is actively casting about for his next gig.
As Senior Biologist in the City of San Diego’s Water Quality Laboratory, Jeffery Pasek supervised sample collection, laboratory analyses, and regulatory reporting across the City’s drinking water system; from source waters, to water treat plants, and to the water distribution system.
As Watershed Manager for the City of San Diego Public Utilities Department, Jeffery Pasek oversaw the management of water resources and other natural resources on 42,000 acres of land owned by the department around the City’s nine source water reservoirs. Additionally, he guided the department’s interaction with other governmental entities and private land owners across 946 square miles of land upstream of the reservoirs, focusing on land use practices and development activities that would affect water quality in the drinking source water system.
Jeffery Pasek has been involved with San Diego’s potable reuse projects for thirty years. Pure Water San Diego is the City of San Diego's phased, multi-year program that will provide nearly half of San Diego's water supply from advance-treated recycled wastewater, at the same time reducing the amount of treated wastewater discharged to the Pacific Ocean. As part of the Pure Water San Diego team, Jeffery Pasek guided the program’s regulatory compliance and oversaw reservoir studies of Miramar, San Vicente, and Otay Reservoirs.
