Our experts, Dr. Kathryn Beheshti and Dr. Rachel Smith, will discuss the 90 million dollar lagoon restoration that is in progress. They are part of a team of scientists that is conducting independent monitoring of the San Dieguito Lagoon Restoration Project.
We will begin our day at 9:00 am at the Del Mar Town Hall, where we will have a presentation from our experts about the lagoon restoration. After the presentation, we'll regroup at the parking lot near the Viewpoint Brewery on the corner of Jimmy Durante Blvd and San Dieguito Dr.
This will be an easy hike on the Lagoon Trail. We will have the opportunity to learn about the Least Tern nesting sites, the ponds and marshes, and the birds and plants that call the San Dieguito Lagoon their home. There are wonderful views of the San Dieguito River and tidal marshes. Bring your binoculars for great birdviewing!
Around noon we'll have lunch and celebration at the Viewpoint Brewery.
A brief extended excursion will take place after lunch for those who want to explore more of the San Dieguito Lagoon. This is an out-and-back excursion, so you may return to your car at any time.
