Phone call with Chuck on 5/18:
SPAWAR will be sampling on Tuesday - this will be a good time to test our design if it's done, or it it's not this is a good time to see them actually sample
We mentioned that with the prototype test, the primary issue was that the cutting wire woven through the mesh bag did not give sufficient cutting force
He favored having separate mechanisms for the cutting wire an mesh bag
We will have two separate cords running up to the operator: one to actuate the cutting an the other to close the mesh bag
We asked Chuck's preference on the two camera models we researched: (1) GoPro ($200) or (2) Xi Action Camera ($70)
He said that the team just purchased a GoPro camera for this project, so we will likely use it
For better camera visualization, we told him that we were looking into buying scuba LED lighting
He said to look into going to the Deepsea Power & Lighting store, where they have high-end products, including cameras and LED lights
He might be able to meet Monday or Tuesday near SPAWAR to join us for the testing
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Final Design Review presentation (5/16)
Noted that there is no such thing as Nylon Music Wire
When we purchased Wire we got music wire as well as nylon wire and fishing line
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Anthony noted that wi-fi might not work with a Go Pro underwater
This is true, so instead we will take videos underwater and post process them to get the images we want
Risks and Areas of Concern
Will there be cord entanglement leading up to the operator when using two cords?
How will we attach the plastic tubing that will join hold the cords?
Where will we mount the camera and LED lights?
