Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
We have come up with 2 new sampler design ideas and will model these designs in CAD
We will talk to Tom about the designs this week
Meeting with Chuck was canceled due to rain, will try to meet again ASAP
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Developed a complete design that needs some improvements
Used CAD to model designs
Finished Design Proposal presentation
Finished 1st draft of the report
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Tanima: Continue researching electronic methods for dispenser and decide if it is feasible in comparison to our manual method
David: Research ratchets to be used for cord winder
David: Reschedule meeting with Chuck
Bridget: Finalize sampler design #1 CAD drawing
Bridget: Prototype dispenser with CVC pipes, cord, and cord winder
Joseph: Finalize sampler design #2 CAD drawing
All: Talk to Tom about designs
All: Go over lab space with Ian

Sponsor was unavailable to meet this past week due to rain
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Design Proposal presentation comments:
Dr. T suggested using music coil for cutting the sample
This method is included in our sample design #1 CAD drawing (which will be completed Monday night).
Dr. T suggested to make the rod design slightly heavier than neutral density
Bridget will be prototyping the dispenser this week, to get an idea of how many rods and other materials we will need. We will then keep this comment in mind once we know exactly what we need to purchase.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Design Proposal presentation comments:
Pedro suggested looking into "bistable mechanisms" as a cutting method for the blades because it keeps them in a stable position
We may consider using a bistable mechanism in our sampler design #2.
Damian suggested mounting the machine vertically on the kayak to make it easier for the person to lower the sampler
Bridget has drawn up a few designs for mounting the mechanism. We'll probably look into a mount once we finalize our design.
Twisting rod mechanism was suggested
Blade and safety
Zach and Joe (in other SPAWAR group)
Bridget talked to Zach and Joe about the current sampler designs we have already. Joe suggested we use a pump to take samples. We will talk to Chuck and see if this is feasible.
Risks and Areas of Concern
Design of blade position in current design presents safety concerns
Need to schedule a meeting with Chuck to talk about algae
Resources or Information Required but not Available

Schedule
Cutting algae samples with simple prototype
Prototype current dispenser design
Update Gantt chart.
