*Fair Use & Copyright

Vocabulary:

Copyright: Laws that protect creative work so that people must be given permission before they perform, share, or copy it.

Creative Commons: A type of copyright that allows people to share, copy, and add to your creative work as long as they give credit. Example: “The Commons” on Flickr

Fair Use: If you are using copyrighted work for educational, entertainment, reporting, or critiquing purposes AND you aren't making money from it, you may be able to use small amounts without the copyright owners' permission.

Piracy: Stealing copyrighted works.

Plagiarism: Copying or making minor change to someone else's work and taking credit for it. So. . .what are the best ways to avoid plagiarism?    And how much of my paper can be quotes?

Public Domain: Work that is no longer copyrighted (most copyrights expire 70 years after the death of the person who created the work). These works can be used however you'd like--just don't claim that you created it, or that'll be plagiarism! Example: Project Gutenberg

Let's make a Fair Use CA$E:
