*Plagiarism and Paraphrasing
Being able to paraphrase, or put information in your own words, is an important skill to practice.
If you struggle with paraphrasing, try this:
Read a piece of the original resource and then verbally say what you just learned in your own words (you can even use text-to-speech technology to record your words as you talk).
Compare your words to the original source and make sure you've truly put the information in your own words.
Remember, paraphrasing is NOT the same as translating writing from a foreign language. You don't need to switch each word for something new and keep the same sentence structure of the original writing. Instead, you need to read the information, understand it, and write it in your own way. This will help you avoid plagiarism, or stealing someone else's work and calling it your own.
