How To:

What can YOU do to save energy at the co-ops?

Appliances
  • Use stand-by and hibernate modes on your computer
  • Get rid of plug loads (the energy used when things, such as cell phone chargers and kitchen appliances, use when “turned off” but still plugged in). Unplug appliances or use a power strip and turn it off when you leave your room or go to sleep
  • Turn off lights when not in use
Showering
  • Turn off the shower head when you're lathering up and shampooing. Then turn it back on when you need to rinse off!
Laundry
  • Hand wash clothing in a bucket and use your houses clothesline whenever possible
  • Wash and dry full loads of laundry, and use cold water when you can

Cooking
  • Place a lid on your pan when boiling water- it will boil faster and save energy and time!
  • Close the fridge door as quickly as possible
  • Turn off ventilation fan when stove is not in use!
