Youth Apprenticeship (YA)
Students interested in a Youth Apprenticeship should be in good academic standing, have strong attendance and pride themselves on representing Baraboo High School well in the community. Previous attendance records and behavioral referrals will be reviewed when determining eligibility for this program.

15915Y DWD/CESA 5 Youth Apprenticeship - Semester 1
15916Y DWD/CEAS 5 Youth Apprenticeship - Semester 2
Can be taken for 0.5 credit OR for 1.0 credit for each semester
Grades 11 & 12 can be taken for one year, or across both Junior and Senior years (Seniors will be given priority)
YA programs are offered to high school juniors and seniors to prepare for a career while still in school. It is a rigorous one or two-year elective program that combines academics and technical instruction with mentored on-the-job learning experience. This is a paid work experience.
General Information:
A one or two-year, school-supervised, paid work experience for high school juniors or seniors.
Proficiency attained in standard statewide skills
Combination of related classroom instruction and workplace learning
Prepares students for further training at either postsecondary educational institution or at a business or industry
One Year Hour Requirement = 450 hours
Two Year Hour Requirement = 900 hours
Upon completion, students will have earned a Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Skills Standard Certificate specific to their career choice
Student Responsibilities:
Complete the Youth Apprenticeship application
Paper applications to the Youth Apprenticeship Program can be turned into to Mr. Moran (W118)
Complete an interview and attain employment by the employer
Maintain academic standing and acceptable attendance in school. If you receive a failing grade (F) in a required class (needed for graduation) you will not be allowed to continue in the YA class.
Maintain acceptable performance on-the-job
Observe rules and requirements established by the company and the YA program
Master the skills and competencies (job skills) and get them checked by teachers and employers
Complete a minimum of 450 hours for the 1 year program and complete required program competencies
Complete a minimum of 900 work hours for the 2 year program and complete required program competencies
