Become a VDR (Volunteer Deputy Registrar) in Travis County! To become a VDR, you must be at least 18, a US citizen, and a Texas resident. Residents in ATX area counties can participate in asynchronous training (takes about one hour) to register voters by watching this video and completing an exam. Once you receive your VDR in Travis, you can apply to be a VDR in other Texas counties. Check the county Election Department websites for instructions to apply for reciprocal VDR certification. Once you become certified, sign up for a volunteer opportunity here via the League of Women voters. For questions about Travis County opportunities, contact: volunteer@lwvaustin.org, and for Williamson County, email: Karen Sue Darby at VoterServices@LWVWilco.org.
HeadCount offers opportunities for VDRs to register voters at concerts and festivals. Click here to search venues within 100 miles of ATX.
In order to receive credit for these VDR trainings, you will need to become a certified VDR and register voters for at least one event.
Please contact Linda Cox at lcox@austincc.edu if you need more guidance in finding a service learning activity that works for you.
