American Lit II 10-week Schedule

Week One: Orientation; Review of College-Level Writing


Go to Blackboard and click START HERE in the course menu and review my greeting and all materials in the folders for Essential Course information (the Syllabus, Schedule, Reading List, Course Requirements, Final Project (not required), FAQs, etc.); GET HELP; Zoom Meetings, etc.


Click Assignments and read the lectures and complete the activities for Week One, including the Plagiarism tutorial by clicking here. 


Complete Journal One.

Week One's Zoom session (Tuesday at 5 p.m.) is an orientation of the course and discussion of Week One Assignments. See the Zoom folder in the Blackboard menu for the links and codes. All students are required to attend OR watch the recording.

DUE: Orientation Quiz and Intro Thread (in the Discussion Board) Saturday, June 1

DUE: Plagiarism tutorial and Journal One by Sunday, June 2

DUE: Project Proposal (optional) by Sunday, June 2

WARNING! Failure to complete the Orientation Quiz and Intro Thread by the first week of class may result in withdrawal for non-attendance!!!


Week Two: Late 19th and Turn of the Century Readings and "The Awakening"

Study the lectures, read the works, and complete the assignments in the Assignments tab for Week Two, for the Late 19th and Turn of the Century readings, including "The Awakening." 

Complete Quiz One (Turn of the Century, "The Awakening," and review of college-level writing).


If you would like to read an excerpt from one of the selections in our Zoom session and/or take the lead in the discussion of the piece, please email me by 3 p.m.

Week Three: The Moderns and Harlem Renaissance

Study the lectures and read the works in the Week 3 folder (in the Assignments tab) for the Moderns and Harlem Renaissance.

Complete BB1 in the discussion board-- get started by mid-week. Complete Quiz Two.

DUE: BB1 by Saturday, June 15

DUE: Quiz 2 (Moderns/Harlem--remember that all assessments are cumulative!) by Sunday, June 16


Week Four: Paper One (Research)

Study the lectures, complete the assignments, read the directions for Paper One, choose a topic, and then submit your outline (with one scholarly source) in the portal linked in the folder for Week Four. After obtaining my approval and reading the feedback (check Grades and Feedback in the course menu), begin drafting your paper. 

Complete the Finding Articles tutorial by clicking here, and then email me the results (80 percent or higher)

Click here to take and submit a comprehensive MLA tutorial and quiz for five EC points. You must follow the directions for submitting results to me (80 percent or higher) and make a notation of the score and date completed underneath your Works Cited page for Paper One. 

DUE: Finding Articles tutorial by Friday, June 21

DUE: Paper One Outline with one library article (begin draft once outline is approved) by Saturday, June 22


Week Five: Paper One (Research)

Peer Edit Paper One via BB2 (if you want two takes from me, post Take One by Monday, July 1). Do not begin peer editing until I have approved your outline. Once you have finished peer editing, post for a grade.

Note: If you turn in Paper One for a grade by Friday, June 28, you will earn five EC points. In order to qualify, you will need to have completed the tutorials, peer editing (BB2), BB1, Journal One, and the first two quizzes. 

DUE: BB2 and Paper One by Sunday, June 30 at noon (don't forget to make a notation of tutorial completions and any other EC underneath your WC). I generally do not respond to takes in the discussion board on the weekends posted after 8 a.m.--FYI.  


Week Six: Midterm 

Study the Midterm Review linked in the Week 6 folder.

Complete Journal Two.

DUE: Midterm Exam by Saturday, July 6

HARD DUE DATE: BB2 and Paper One, by Sunday, July 7 at noon (no feedback from the instructor after Thursday at noon).

DUE: Journal Two by Sunday, July 7


Week 7: Post-Modern and Present-Day Authors

Study the lectures and read the works for Week 7 for the Post-Modern and Present-Day Authors.

Complete BB3--get started by mid-week.

Complete Quiz Three.

DUE: BB3 by Saturday, July 13

DUE: Quiz Three by Sunday, July 14


Week 8: Paper Two (Creative/Analysis)

Read the instructions for Paper Two and then submit your outline (with one scholarly library source if required) in the Week 8 folder for Paper Two. Begin drafting once your outline has been approved.

DUE: Paper Two Outline by Saturday, July 20


Week 9: Paper Two (Creative/Analysis)

Peer Edit Paper Two via BB4. Do not begin peer editing until I have approved your outline. Once you have finished peer editing, post for a grade. 

If you'd like me to review your paper in Tuesday's Zoom, email it to me as a DOC by 3 p.m. 

If you turn in Paper Two EARLY, by Thursday, July 25, you will earn five EC points. In order to qualify, you will need to have completed ALL other assignments, including BB1-4, all quizzes, the midterm, the tutorials, and the first two journals. Don't forget to complete Journal Three after I grade your paper! Keep in mind that there are no corrections allowed for Paper Two. 

Due: Paper Two and BB4 by Sunday, July 28 at noon (don't submit Paper Two until all previous assignments, including peer editing and Quiz 3, have been completed). If you want two takes from me, post Take One by SUNDAY, July 28. I generally do not respond to takes in the discussion board on the weekends posted after 8 a.m.--FYI. 


Week 10: Reflection

Complete Journal Three.

Complete all assignments in the course by Thursday, August 1, at noon, and receive five EC points on your final journal.

NO ZOOM THIS WEEK, but there will be an Extra Credit Zoom on Tuesday (5-6 p.m.) for the class presentations.

HARD DUE DATE: BB4 and Paper Two, by Wednesday, Wednesday July 31 (no feedback in BB$ from the instructor after Tuesday at noon).

HARD DUE DATE: Journal Three by Friday, August 2 at noon

Check your email and gradesheet Saturday morning to make sure all assignments were properly submitted and recorded and that your grade isn't borderline.


NO CORRECTIONS ALLOWED FOR THE FINAL PAPER and NO GRACE PERIOD FOR JOURNAL THREE!
