Living History Day

Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of the 8th grade I would like to thank our guests dearly for visiting and welcome them to ASW.  Thanks to them we are given a chance to explore our history and encounter violence, fear and courage face to face during this time.  We teenagers live in a world where not much evil can be seen. In order to prevent future massacres we learn of past mistakes done and learn from them.  For this particular day we have prepared for a very long time. We read books that made us step into the shoes of the characters. They gave us an idea of what was occurring during that time and what all these people felt. We watched Schindler's List, which made us see what was going on and got to know an amazing hero who saved numerous lives. Lastly we visited Auschwitz-Birkenau, which was a spectacular opportunity for us to truly face the Holocaust story.  We may read, watch and listen about the terrors that occurred during the time of the Second World War but nothing can replace a true visit to the place where it all happened.

Today when we hear our guests speak of their journeys, let us show sympathy to all the losses they encountered along their way, and let us look up to them, those who had so much courage within themselves and are now here with us today.

The Holocaust was a time of terror, massacre and little hope.  A famous quote by Martin Luther King states, "Only in the darkness can you see the stars." Now that we have learned of the darkness, let the stars never fade.

Przemówienie na L.H.D.

Witam serdecznie  szanownych zgromadzonych . Jesteśmy zaszczyceni Państwa obecnością w naszej szkole.  Nazywam się Iga i uczęszczam do ósmej klasy. Razem z moimi rówieśnikami, przez długi czas przygotowywaliśmy się do przyjęcia Państwa. Między innymi, zwiedziliśmy Oświęcim, Muzeum Historyczne „Fabryka Schindlera”, teren getta krakowskiego, Cmentarz Powstańców Warszawskich i inne historyczne miejsca związane z drugą wojną światową. Przeczytaliśmy i omawialiśmy lekturę Eliego Wiesela „Noc”, Ruty Sepetys „Szare śniegi Syberii” oraz Aleksandra Kamińskiego „Kamienie na szaniec”. Obejrzeliśmy także wyjątkowy film Stevena Spielberga pod tytułem „Lista Schinlera”. Nabyliśmy przez ten okres czasu  głębokie zrozumienie tragicznych zdarzeń, które miały miejsce podczas tego okresu czasu. Toteż, goszczenie świadków historii i weteranów wojennych jest dla Nas ogromnym zaszczytem i wyróżnieniem.Dzięki zdobytej od Państwa wiedzy, będziemy w stanie przekazać nasze informacje innym pokoleniom a w ten sposób, więcej osób z innych generacji zrozumie przykre ale prawdziwe zdarzenia, które miały miejsce podczas wojny. To doświadczenie także uwrażliwi nas na cierpienie ludzi i krzywdy, które niosła druga wojna światowa. Z tej racji, będziemy w stanie zapobiec ewentualnym powtórzeniu tragedii.
