Welcome to ASW, Ladies and Gentlemen. This is a community where we, as 8th grade students, thrive as learners while investing in our promising futures. In this environment, we are exposed to a diverse number of nationalities, races, and religious backgrounds. Yet, we have no reason to fear persecution or torment in this school. Often, we are so safe as to forget this freedom we enjoy. This is why we have immersed ourselves in the study of World War II. For the past few weeks, we have discussed the politics and the dates, the statistics and the mass execution, yet the true horror cannot be depicted within a textbook. In Schindler’s List we saw the events play before our eyes. When reading Night we heard Elie Wiesel’s voice of misery. And by visiting Auschwitz, we set foot in the reality. However, we cannot experience what has passed. We may only listen. That is why I would like to thank you, on behalf of the whole 8th grade, for joining us today and sharing your memories.
We shall walk away knowing the evil capabilities of mankind. We must remember that humanity, with all its faults and sins, shall not change overtime. It is our understanding, our decisions, and our actions that can ensure that no such atrocities shall occur ever again. I am confident that through Living History we shall recognize the importance of compassion and justice, and shall fight for equality as the world’s future leaders.

Szanowni Państwo, witamy w Amerykańskiej Szkole w Warszawie i serdecznie dziękujemy za przybycie.
Przez kilka ostatnich tygodni uczyliśmy się o Drugiej Wojnie Światowej. Zgłębialiśmy naszą wiedzę czytając książkę Elie Wiesel'a pt. "Noc', oglądając film Stephen'a Spielberg'a pt. "Lista Schindlera", a także zwiedzając obóz koncentracyjny w Oświęcimiu i Brzezince, aby na własne oczy zobaczyć jak okrutne zbrodnie popełniały nazistowskie Niemcy.
Jednak pomimo tych lekcji nigdy nie będziemy w pełni świadomi przez jakie piekło musieli przejść świadkowie tamtych czasów. Mamy więc nadzieję, że państwa świadectwo choć o krok przybliży nas do prawdy, którą powinien znać każdy człowiek, byśmy nigdy nie czynili takiego samego zła i by historia się nie powtórzyła.
Pozwolę sobie w tym miejscu przytoczyć cytat Karola Musioła: "Holokaust jest częścią historii współczesnej, ale też historii faszyzmu, jest częścią tradycji europejskiej, z którą musimy się pogodzić i którą musimy zrozumieć."Mandana Vakil, 8th Grade Student
2013 Living History Guests
ASW would like to thank you for coming to our 12th living history day.
Every member of our grade, the teachers and the students, appreciate the fact that we, the children of the 21st century, are standing here, with the survivors who outlived the unthinkable.

He, who hath seen it, will see it over and over again.
History is never forgotten. Unfortunately, it is at risk of repeating itself.
We proceeded during the day, to do the following actions: You, our guests, shared. We, the students, heard. And as a whole, we all cared. We may not like each other at times and we could yell “I hate you” here and there. However, after what we heard today, we will not be able to do that anymore. What is the meaning of cruelty? The meaning of cruelty is a question that cannot be answered. Not in any language. The only way we can roughly know the answer is through the stories that were told today.
On behalf of ASW, the 8th grade, and myself, we wish you to live on, share the stories with us, and the coming generations.
ASW will continue thanking and respecting you, as we will encourage you to come again next year and the year after, and many more years to come.

Szanowni Państwo,
Nie tak dawno temu, w 1939 roku niemieckie wojska weszły na terytorium polskie, rozpoczynając drugą wojnę światową, która trwałą 6 lat. W ciągu tych sześciu lat ginęli ludzie, niszczono miasta i wsie.
Państwo jesteście weteranami II wojny światowej oraz osobami, które przeżyły holocaust, największe ludobójstwo w dziejach ludzkości. Dlatego dzisiaj, 68 lat po kapitulacji Niemiec i zakończeniu tej wojny, spotkaliśmy się w naszej szkole aby nie zapomnieć historii tej wojny, oraz okrucieństw, które są związane z tą wojną. Oraz, co ważniejsze, żeby to się już nigdy nie powtórzyło.
Niezmiernie ważne jest pamiętać o naszej przeszłości, gdyż bez wiedzy o niej nie jesteśmy w stanie dobrze budować naszej przyszłości, a wraz z nią przyszłości ludzkości. Dlatego też jest to dla nas, uczniów, wielkim zaszczytem że mogliśmy się z państwem spotkać i wysłuchać Państwa opowiadań z pierwszej ręki o tych burzliwych dziejach ludzkości.
