Add Syllabus

FIRST THINGS FIRST: If you have not created your own Website, please do so! With a few clicks of the mouse and a few introductory words, you will be on your way to providing a more blended setting for parents and students. Here is the QuickStart on Creating your own Website.

THE NEED: In years past, we wrote out our lesson plans and syllabi without sharing them among our students, parents, and even our administrators. For teachers to build a more "learner-centered" classroom, we must begin to build partnerships with all stakeholders (administrators, parents, and students). Posting your 6-weeks syllabus where everyone can find it, is one of the first steps in making that connection.

FYI: Because you have an educational account, your may make as many Websites as you like (examples: one for each subject, one for each group of students, one for a group you sponsor, one for your vacation, etc).

INSTRUCTIONS: Read through these steps carefully and then watch video attached to this page at the bottom.

THE NEXT STEPS:

(1) Begin in Google Drive: Create a folder in Google Drive called "Syllabi_LastName" (example: Syllabi_Rousseau). This is where you will place your syllabus.

Here is how. While inside your Syllabi_Lastname folder do the following:

  • If you already have a MS WORD document which contains your Syllabus, simply copy and paste the appropriate amount of info into Your Website.

(2) Now go to your Website: Here is How!

  • From your Email, click on your Google Grid (top right-hand corner of your browser)

  • Click on the Sites icon -- All the sites you have created OR that have been shared with you will be listed.

  • Click on the site to which you wish to add your Syllabus. When the site OPENS you will notice that you have the Edit pencil, Add Page Icon, and Settings Icon in the upper right-hand corner.

    • If you do not see these Icons, you do not have permission to edit or add files to this site. If you do see these Icons, you are ready for the next step.

(3) ADD FILES: Add a Page strictly for your Syllabus. To do this, Click on the Icon to add the page and name it Syllabus. BEFORE you CREATE, Select the location UNDER your current page.

Then CREATE. Type in a description of what you will be providing on this page.

Here is an example:

https://sites.google.com/a/arpisd.org/template/home/syllibus

Make sure you click SAVE in the upper right-hand corner each time you edit this page. NOTICE the Add Files icon at the bottom of this page.

When you click on this icon, you are able to search your folders and drives to find the files that you want to attach here. You can easily go to your Google Drive and find your Syllabus Folder and Files. Click on the file you wish to upload, then Click on OPEN. The file is now on your Website. If you have a syllabus for each six weeks, just upload there and attach them here. Any files you add here, can be downloaded and viewed by anyone visiting your site.

FYI: When you are in the edit mode as the owner of the site, you are able to delete any file you no longer wish to share by clicking on the X on the right of the uploaded file. Everyone else will only be able to download a copy the file, which will not affect the original file.

Also notice that you can upload PowerPoints, spread sheets, videos, photos, etc. here as well to share with your groups.

(Final Step) NOW VIEW VIDEO: I have shared a 3 minute video with you (below) which will guide you through this process. Download the video onto your desktop to view it. The Name of the Video is syllabi.mp4. Takes just a second to download. Use download arrow like this one.....it is below this page
