Audacity_CD2_MP3

Audacity is a free software which should already be loaded onto your desktop. If not you can find it in \\host03\share\teachers\software

STEPS

(1) Open Audacity

(2) Next you need to tell Audacity what you want to record. So Click on Edit / Preferences.

(3) Click on Devices and tell Audacity that you want to record from your own computer (Stereo Mix), not a mic.

(4) Next Open the window of the item you want to record. You will need two windows open, Audacity & the Control of what you want to record. Here I have YouTube AND Audacity windows open. This could have been Audacity & a CD Player open as well.

(5) Click on the Audacity Red Record Button first and then the PLAY button of what you wish to record. You should see the sound waves being recorded on Audacity.

(6) When you finish your recording, simply stop the recording by clicking on the Yellow Stop Button

(7) Now you need to EXPORT your audio (File / Export Audio)

(8) This requires that you select (A) WHERE to save the Audio (first down arrow), (B) WHAT you will Name your Audio (Second Down Arrow), & (C) WHAT Type of File you wish to save it as (Usually MP3).

WARNING, if you have never saved an MP3 in Audacity before, you will be required to FIND the LAME.dll file at C:/Program Files (x86)/LameFE/ lame_enc.dll. You will need to surf to this location and then say OK.

You only ever have to point to this file once. If you need help finding this file, email me and I will help you.

(9) You will be asked to name the artist/author and album/book, etc. to identify this file. It is up to you if you would like to fill out this form. When students listen to this audio file, they will see this information scroll across their screen. You will see your file being saved and you can now listen from any wireless device by downloading the file to the device OR sharing the file in Google Drive.
