A Design-Based Research Approach

Anywear Academy is the final product of a five-year Research-through-Design Case Study on how an edu-larp-based, social wearables-focused camp can bridge the Identity Gap in STEM fields.

At Anywear Academy, campers engage in computational problem-solving by taking on characters and enacting scenarios that encourage immersive learning.

By going on missions as Anywear Academy Agents-in-Training, campers learn how to program and design social wearable technology to solve problems for a community.

Benefits

Play-Based Learning

Edu-larp is a structured, live-action roleplay experience that teaches through social enactment and reflection

Edu-larp stands for Educational Live-Action Roleplay!

Community Building

Campers are involved in shared missions that engage them in group problem-solving through coding and wearable design

Competence Boosting

Camp observations, interviews, and pre-and post-surveys showed that campers reported increases in measures of competence, self-efficacy, and interest in computation.
