Why should all kids/teens play sports? According to health.gov, “Improved teamwork, social skills, and social responsibility,” It also, “ lowers rates of anxiety and depression, improved psychological and emotional well-being for individuals with disabilities, and improved bone health.” As you can see, playing sports can help with many things. I can support this statement from personal experience.
It definitely improved my teamwork skills and improved my social skills and has helped with a lot of things. According to ymcagbw.org “Teamwork is an important life skill - and an essential part of team sports. Participation in sports allows children to make lasting friendships, develop communication skills, feel a sense of community and learn to respect their teammates and coaches.”
Even athletes in individual sports (track, swim, gymnastics, etc.) learn to work as a team with their coach and make lasting friendships with others in their sport. Surprisingbenefitsofyouthsports states “Sports are associated with lower rates of stress, anxiety, depression and suicidal behavior according to specialist I feel as if the stress of school can get better and you just feel better about yourself especially if you are an athletic person.”
The sports I play have helped me get faster, stronger and helped me achieve all of the above. I am better athletically, mentally and physically. The sources I have read have said that there are lots of benefits to playing sports when you're a kid. There are more opportunities to get into a college if you want to, obviously there are the same opportunities when it comes to school but a little over 7% of high school athletes get a scholarship to play sports somewhere. The opportunity to get a scholarship could be a big part of someone's life, scholarships can change peoples life especially for people who can't afford college. I know some people who play at the University of Oregon and they are there thanks to a football scholarship. Playing sports at a young age can help build you up to be able to get that scholarship that you might want or even just get you to the sport you've always wanted to play, even get you to your dream school. “Don’t be afraid of failure. This is the way to succeed.”
