There are lots of types of movies, including horror movies and romance. Horror movies are better and here's why.
Horror movies are the best genre because they boost dopamine and they keep you on the edge of your seat. Horror movies are great for scaring you and putting you out of your comfort zone.
Take Cabin in the Woods (my favorite movie) as an example. Cabin in the Woods is a horror and thriller. Cabin in the Woods has a 93% in Rotten Tomatoes, made $69,935,600 worldwide, and was shown in 2,811 theaters. The movie called, “A Thousand Words", a comedy drama, made $22,044,277 worldwide and played in 1,890 theaters.
Also, Cabin In The Woods appeared in 2,811 theaters and a movie called Gnome Alone only appeared in 66. Cabin in the Woods is a horror movie which on the first day of opening made $14,743,614 and Gnome Alone, a Family Fantasy Musical, made $64,482 on the first day.
Studies, from Digital Commons, have proven horror films can trigger the fight-or-flight response and also have the added benefit of boosting adrenaline, endorphins, and dopamine — effectively making horror movies one of life's best natural highs.
What about a horror movie compared to a horror movie, like Cabin in the Woods compared to Little Shop of Horrors? Little Shop of Horrors made $39,032,786 worldwide and Cabin in the Woods made $69,935,600. Little Shop of Horrors was released on December 19, 1986 and Cabin in the Woods was released on Apr 13, 2012. While Cabin in the Woods made $27,862,323 internationally, Little Shop of Horrors made $785 internationally.
People may think that horror movies are too scary or that every single horror movie is the same. Maybe they think that romance movies have a better hook than horror movies, but do those movies have jump scares? Do they give you an adrenaline rush?
I think that everyone should give horror movies a try and not think that horror movies are just something that they don’t like without even trying it. Maybe people should try it with a friend or family member.
Next time you get the opportunity, watch a horror movie and see how you like it. You might like it, you might not, but give it a try.
