Why social media is so addictive.
Social media is an app you probably use everyday. It is something that you can socialize with friends, family etc. You probably don't think that it is that bad for you (and it isn't always bad for you), but sometimes it is.
It is important to limit yourself to a certain amount of time on certain apps. Experts recommend less than 2 hours of screen time per day.
I can understand how that doesn't seem like a lot of time, but when you think about it, when your screen time is up (if you have screen time) then you have to entertain yourself. You could call your friends or hang out with your them and go to a park or to one of their houses. Although I am on social media a lot, I have limits so when my limit is up I can't be on it anymore after an hour.
Many experts say social media can be dangerously addictive, just like drugs or cigarettes. Teens who get hooked find it hard to spend too much time away from social media. If you get addicted to social media it is hard to step away from it.
When you watch too much of any app really it isn't good for your eyesight, physical health and mental health. “Teens are more likely to say social media has had a negative effect on others than on themselves Some 32% say social media has had a mostly negative effect on people their age, while 9% say this about social media’s effect on themselves”.
Young social media users aged 18 to 22 account for a shocking 40% of all Americans addicted to social media. According to research from Common Sense, teens average 7 hours and 22 minutes of screen time per day.
A lot of my friends say that it is not a lot of time and how they can't believe I only have an hour. One good thing about social media is how funny it is. There are so many funny or cool things on social media.
When I'm scrolling through TikTok and there is a funny video, it just makes me happy; especially when there is a dog video or a try not to laugh; even the dances are fun to learn. That is why social media is so addicting.
