Sports:
Sports aren't free; so with that in mind, make sure that you check prices on school pay for all sports because prices vary. Ex: Golf is $300 and Track is $150. You can apply for scholarships and reduced fees making it $30 for most sports. Students have a $600 maximum. You can try out for as many sports as you’d like, but some will overlap, making you choose one practice or game over the other, if you make the several teams. Sports are really good for getting into college on scholarships. Your grades do matter if you plan on playing sports, As you will get benched if your grades fall below a C! For tryouts, you must have a physical to give to the coaching staff, and they are good for 2 years. Ex: If you took a physical in 2021 for football, then it is good until the 2023 season for any sport.
Clubs + Sports:
Cross Country, Cheer, Football, Basketball, Soccer, Swim, Baseball, Tennis, Golf, Dance, Volleyball, Track, Softball, Lacrosse, Wrestling, Petanque, Ultimate Frisbee, Water Polo, Color Guard, Black Student Union, Environmental Club, Pacific Islander, D&D Club, Capybara Club, GSA, Interact, Spanish Club, French Club, Debate, etc…
If you have an idea for a club you can always try and make it a thing. Ex: Last year there was a Cow Club where they sat in the library during lunch and talked about how much they loved cows.
CTE:
If you have any idea of what you want to do after high school or what you might want to pursue a career, then CTE’s are better to start earlier than later. It gives you choices and a better idea of what you could do. especially if you don't know what you want to do. Sheldon offers a variety of different CTE classes. The health CTE’s are the easiest classes to get into. It’s never too late to talk to your guidance counselor about college but don’t wait until the last minute! Talk with them sooner than later to get a head start. Some electives look really good on college applications, like debate, languages, and extra core-type classes like: world studies, math, science, and english!
Classes- Languages Electives:
I’d recommend taking a language class in freshman year, so that it's out of the way. You need 2 years of a foreign language to graduate. Being in the clubs for the languages you take, makes the class easier, plus being in clubs helps you branch out socially making it easier. Clubs will also help get you better acquainted with the upperclassmen. Make your classes/days more fun by taking electives that interest you or that you've never thought of trying.
Classes- General:
At Sheldon there is an ABC schedule. On Monday: C, on Tuesday: A, on Wednesday: B, on Thursday: A, on Friday: B. School days end at 3:30. This can/might change in the upcoming years. They run on a semester schedule; meaning instead of 3 trimesters, the school year is split into 2 parts. Most classes are worth 0.5 credits each semester.
Grades:
Grades matter! A D- is a passing grade but it is encouraged to have A’s and B’s. If you keep your grades up, it's easier for them to stay up. If you can keep high grades in freshman year, it helps for the rest of high school as junior and senior years. These are critical with college and SAT’s. In sophomore year, you can take PSAT’s which prepare you for the real ones. Grades are important to keep high, if you do any type of sports, so you can stay in your sport.
