The NC Medical Board has developed an expedited path to licensure for experienced physicians, answering concerns raised by North Carolina hospitals and others that the Board's licensing process takes too long. The Board's Licensing Department currently advises applicants that it may take four to six months to process their applications. The NC Rules Review Commission approved rules establishing the expedited physician license application in July and they are in effect as of August 1. The new application is intended to make it faster and easier for out-of-state physicians to obtain a North Carolina license, while ensuring the same high quality standards for admission to practice.

Virtually every day in Onslow County, traffic tickets, search warrants and arrest warrants are served and filed. Once they are, they become a public record and available to anyone who wants to see them. Citations, warrants, subpoenas and court decisions are among the criminal and judicial documents eligible for public inspection. “The only thing that would not be open to the public are warrants that haven’t been served and those that have been sealed by a judge,” Cindy Casteen, an assistant clerk at Onslow County District Court said. “That will sometimes happen during an ongoing investigation.” Casteen said the majority of people who come through her office looking for records are attorneys, their assistants and other court officials, but she mentioned criminal background checks by businesses and individuals are also popular reasons for visits to the records office.

A lawyer can help you understand whether you are eligible for an expungement. Once you meet your state’s eligibility criteria, you can file a petition for expungement. You may have to attach other information, such as a certified copy of your criminal record, to your petition. You also may have to pay court and record fees associated with your request. The court will typically notify law enforcement and the prosecutor who handled your criminal charges. If the authorities do not object to your petition, the judge may decide to approve your request without a hearing. However, an expungement hearing is typically scheduled. You will have an opportunity to present your case to the judge and explain why an expungement is merited and necessary. If the authorities object to your request, they will also have a chance to present their arguments against an expungement.
