Religious Education

'Respect for other religions is not just a matter of tolerance; it is a recognition of the inherent dignity and worth of every human being'

Dalai Lama

At OVPA we enrich the children’s understanding of different cultures and religions around the world to enhance cooperation between different faith groups. Developing a respect and an acceptance of diversity of beliefs through celebrating others traditions and fostering empathy. Our theologists are encouraged to reflect on what it means to have a faith and then develop their own spiritual knowledge and understanding through a respectful environment.

RE is achieved through the East Sussex Local Authority Agreed Syllabus for RE and scheme of work including the Understanding Christianity scheme. Alongside Christianity, children study other major religions such as Islam, Hinduism and Judaism. We return to key themes and ideas in RE through our key concepts of God, People of God, Creation, Salvation, Incarnation and Gospel.

Parents/carers who do not wish their children to be taught the agreed syllabus, or to take part in religious assemblies, should let the headteacher or class teachers know so that their children can be excused, and alternative arrangements made.
