John Fogerty and Keith Urban at CMT Crossroads

John Fogerty paired up with country artist Keith Urban in the Crossroads show of the Country Music Television (CMT) in winter 2005.

The 43-minute show was taped in front of an invitation-only audience at Union Station in Los Angeles on January 20, 2005 and broadcast on February 19, 2005.

The idea of the Crossroads show is to team country music stars with artists from other genres - pop, rock, R & B - and to play together, swamp stories and share their common love of music.

In this episode 16, Fogerty and Urban performed electric and accoustic version of their songs and chatted on sofa and the stage. The show kicked off with an electric version of "Bad Moon Rising". The duo was backed with members of the tour bands of Fogerty and Urban, including John Molo (drums), George Hawkins Jr. (bass), Billy Burnette (guitar) and Bob Britt (guitar) and Brian Nutter (banjo). Unplugged versions included "Rambunctious Boy" performed on the sofa. They also played "Sugar-Sugar" from then recent John Fogerty album Deja Vu All Over Again.

A rock artist pairing up with a country singer didn't shock fans of John Fogerty. "This is one of the top three or four TV appearances that John has made in his career," commented Bob on the mailing list of the John Fogerty Swamp fan community right after the show. "I don't generally listen to country music, so I didn't know too much about Keith Urban, but I'm very impressed. He's very talented, an excellent song writer, singer, and an amazing guitarist."

Collaboration between Fogerty and Urban was also acclaimed by the mailing list subscribers. "The harmonies sounded like they had been performing together for a while. CMT has to be credited for pairing these two," wrote Gatortunes. Rick agreed: "I found the selection of verses John sang of Keith's songs interesting too. To me they were fitting to John's own experiences. They were having a ball playing together on stage too."

In 2011, Fogerty and Urban combined their forces again on the Neil Young Tribute DVD where they performed "Rockin' in the Free World" with Booker T. Jones and others. Later the same year, Fogerty joined Urban at Staples Center in Los Angeles on November 8, 2011 to perform "Proud Mary." They also re-recorded "Almost Saturday Night" for the John Fogerty album Wrote A Song for Everyone in 2013.
