It's Just a Thought

Background

"It's Just a Thought" is an album track on the original Pendulum album, the sixth long-player Creedence Clearwater Revival released.

It's a slow soul ballad reflecting the moods of the Memphis groove. It features introvert lyrics and a mellow organ line played by John Fogerty. It's one of the Pendulum songs describing the breakup of the band.

Collector's notes

"It's Just a Though" was released in Singapore on an EP where other two tracks were "Molina" and "Ramble Tamble".

Live versions

Creedence Clearwater never performed the song live in concert. Neither has John Fogerty done it during his solo years.

Critical reception

"Sustained organ chords introduce a most compeling powerful performances the group with some pleasant interjections from John." -Roy Carr, The New Musical Express, December 1970.

"Ok, I'll be fair, "It's Just A Thought" is a decently lovely ballad, and the organs really contribute to the mood on this one, but it's hardly worth a special listen after the album's over." -John McFerrin, John McFerrin's Music Reviews

Fans' views

"I just can't get over how great a song this is ... it's like nothing CCR ever put out otherwise, and I LOVE the "all the years are passing by and by" part of each verse ... J.C. Fogerty has a much more melodic voice than you'd think."

"The best lyric and by far the most emotional, touching, and meaningful music."
