Side O´ the Road

Background

"Side O' the Road" is an album track on Willy And the Poor Boys, the fourth long-player of Creedence Clearwater Revival.

The guitar instrumental could be interpreted as a homage to Booker T & MGs.

The song was released on the B-side of "It Came Out of the Sky" in the UK in 1973.

Live versions

Creedence Clearwater never performed the song live on stage. Neither has done it John Fogerty during his solo career.

Critical reception

"--- John's concise answer to the Guitar God phenomenom of the period ---".--Ed Ward, liner notes of the 1989 CD release of Willy and the Poor Boys.

"This instrumental showcases John Fogerty on lead guitar. Instead of playing a shred style of guitar that was more popular at the time (think Jimi Hendrix or Alvin Lee), Fogerty plays a no bull shit lead that harkens back to 50's rock and roll. It's a perfect example of CCR's style: not going out of their way to impress you, just writing kick ass songs." -Jimmy, Sputnik Music, April 19th, 2006.
