In the Garden

Background

"In the Garden" is a track of Deja Vu All Over Again, the seventh solo album of John Fogerty. The collection of songs was released in September 2004. It reached #23 in the USA and #1 in Sweden.

A massive stomper "In the Garden" closes the album. The lyrically repetitive bluesrock emulating the sounds of Cream and Jimi Hendrix from the late 60's is a number that immediately stands out of the album's general outline.

Quite surprisingly, "In the Garden" collected favourable reviews from the subscribers of the John Fogerty Swamp Internet Mailing List right after Deja Vu All Over Again was launched in September 2004.

The song is also significant in the sense that it was a kind of prototype of a more commercial effort "Summer of Love" which came out on Revival, the next album of Fogerty.

Critical reception

"--- a massive heavy stomper with ridiculously simplistic sci-fi lyrics that sounds more like Hawkwind than anything remotely associated with John Fogerty so far. Well, he did have a couple similar numbers on Eye Of The Zombie, but this one, free from the clutches of mid-Eighties production, is notably better, although still a very strange choice to end the record with." -George Starostin

Fans' views

"And my favourite track at the moment is In The Garden. This is the 'heavy rock' track. My only complaint is that this track is only 3.37 mins long. I think it could well have been developed into a 6,7,8 minute extended workout."
