Big River

Background

Johnny Cash was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. The final jam eatured him performed "Big River" together with John Fogerty, Keith Richards, Steve Cropper, Carlos Santana, Little Richard, Edgar Winter and others. Fogerty played rhythm and a solo.

There were 25 rockers up onstage for the final jam. Suddenly Vernon Reid broke into "Purple Haze". According to Johnny Cash, he and Keith Richards were completely lost during the performance, but Cash looked back on it with humor later (Patrick Carr & Johnny Cash, Cash: The Autobiography, 2003).

John Fogerty had admired Johnny Cash since the mid-50's when he saw Johnny  playing "I Walk the Line" on TV. They met for the first time in June 1969 when Creedence Clarwater taped "Bad Moon Rising" and "Proud Mary" for The Johnny Cash Show at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee (John Fogerty, Fortunate Son, 2015).

Fans' views

"I was like whats going on with the guitar parts. It's the worst version of Big River I have heard. Johnny Cash did his part to perfection but the band behind him I will say they were terrible."
