Christopher August 2013 update

Hello Everyone! ...

I (Christopher's mother) wanted to give an update on Christopher.

Unfortunately, recent blood tests have shown donor antibodies which can ultimately cause organ rejection.

The antibodies are kidney related, not heart related. So Christopher is carrying around his daddy’s antibodies which is not a good thing!

Christopher is scheduled for a kidney biopsy this Friday at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. It is an outpatient procedure—we will be there all day. The nephrologist will look at the results and Christopher will return next Monday to be admitted to the hospital for IV hook-up and various infusions (blood products-IVIG and meds).

I didn’t, necessarily, want to be introduced to the OK Children’s Hospital this quickly but the nephrologist believes Christopher’s situation is easily handled and the outcome will be positive.

... ... I am praying that Christopher’s stay in the hospital will be brief and he will be discharged by next Wednesday evening.

A little side story to God’s total care for us—when we moved here, I set up our initial appointment with the Oklahoma pediatric nephrologist ....

One of the hardest things about leaving Oregon was the medical care. The nephrology group at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital was superior. We knew each of the four doctors so well and they had devoted so much time and care towards Christopher. None of them knew of a doctor in Oklahoma, but by looking at bios, (The Dr. in Oklahoma) was selected and the transfer call went out as we drove cross-country to our new home.

On the day of Christopher’s first appointment, as we are sitting in the waiting room, George received a text from our Oregon nephrologist. “By the way, I met (your Doc) in our big transplant meeting yesterday and I talked to him about Christopher. He is great. You cannot be in better hands.”

Unknown to us, the national annual kidney transplant conference was held prior to our appointment and both our nephrologists attended. What an amazing coincidence, right? Thank you Lord. We so appreciated that confirmation.

I’ll keep you updated. We expect Christopher to overcome this without difficulty.
