Carle Family History

Andrew (or Andreas) Carle

Carle Family History

I have a bit more information on the Carle family (courtesy of Joyce Brownlow), which builds on the history that was passed to me from my grandmother, Edna Taggart Rasmussen (granddaughter of Andrew Carle). Some of the information is sketchy, so if anyone has a more complete history please let me know!

The Carle's emmigrated from Germany in 1882, arriving on the ship MAAS. Andrew was listed as 54, Fredericka 42, Caroline age 11, Frederick age 9, Link age 8, Emil age 5 and Emma (my great-grandmother) age 3.

My grandmother thought that the family originally settled in eastern Nebraska, presumably around the Antelope County region. At some point, Andrew's wife left him and the family and returned to Germany. Andrew is shown in a 1910 census, living with his son Fred in Chadron, Nebraska.

Andrew lived to a ripe old age of 101. He is buried in Portland, Oregon.

Andrew's children were:

Fred - Married to Delia. Fred and Delia had one son, Fred. Fred (the elder) is buried in Crawford, Nebraska.

Jake - Married and divorced. Could this be the "Link" listed in the ship's manifest?

Caroline (Carrie) - Married Dave Heenan. Lived in Portland, Oregon.

Emil - Unknown wife. Emil and infant buried on farm outside of Chadron.

Louiese - I have one family record showing a daughter Louiese, but my grandmother's notes do not include her.

She is also not listed on the ship's manifest. I don't believe she should be included as part of the family.

Emma - Married Alfred Taggart (July 24, 1899, Hot Springs, South Dakota)

Back row: Bill Wright (Gertie Taggart's husband), Al Taggart (son of Emma), Derby Steel (Liela's husband).

Front row: Leila (Wright) Steele, Emma (Carle) Taggart, Fred Carle (Emma's brother).
