John Henry Steltenpohl was born 27 May 1816 in The Province of Hannover, Germany. His parents were John Henry Steltenpohl and Catherine Maria Drelen (she was confirmed 1830).
John Henry Steltenpohl and Catherine Adelheid Meier (b. 12 July 1821 in Hannover, Germany) were united in Holy Wedlock on August 16, 1844 by Pastor Buck in Amts. Barseubruck (now Hannover, Germany) and soon after that on the 5th of Sept 1844, sailed for America. They entered the United States through New Orleans on the 30th of November 1844 and settled in Jackson Co. Indiana. John received his citizenship papers from Clerk William H. Ewing, who found him to be of "Good Behavior, Moral Character and attached to the principles of the Constitution of the U.S. on the 19th day of March 1851".
