William Mathews Hindman Family History

William Hindman (my great-great grandfather), son of John Hindman, was born August 25, 1806 in Pennsylvania. William undoubtedly lived his entire life in western Pennsylvania (dying April 24, 1873, see death notice below) and is buried in the Corsica, PA cemetery. (Note: One of William's grandchildren was still living in Corsica a number of years ago and he sent me the photo of William's gravestone.)

Link Contents of the Joseph Warren Hindman ledger which includes names and birth/death dates of the William Mathews Hindman family.

William's first marriage was to Racheal Clugh (July 12, 1808 - April 22, 1849). William and Racheal had 6 children before Racheal died in childbirth with the 7th child. William and Racheal's children:

Elizabeth Hindman (born Dec 10, 1835) married James Hall Brown

A. J. Hindman (born Jan 17, 1837)

Sarah Hindman (born Dec 31, 1838)

John Hindman (born Nov 30, 1840)

William C. Hindman (Mar 10, 1843 - Feb 22, 1857)

Nancy A. Hindman (Apr 8, 1847 - Mar 7, 1857). Note that Nancy and William (above) died just a couple weeks apart in the same year. It would be interesting to know whether it was an accident or perhaps illnesses.

Baby boy Hindman (Apr 22, 1849 - Apr 22, 1849)

After Racheal's death, William remarried rather soon, to Mary Ann Bunker. While the marriage date is unknown at this time, they had their first child (Lewis) just 16 months after Racheal's death! William and Mary had 5 children together, as follows:

Lewis C. Hindman (born Aug 31, 1850)

Precilla Hindman (born Jan 31, 1852)

Joseph Warren Hindman (May 17, 1853 - May 10, 1924)

Margret Jane Hindman (born Aug 20, 1855)

Racheal Martha Hindman (Sep 24, 1857 - Jul 29, 1861) Racheal died at age 3. Also note that William and Mary named Racheal after William's first wife.
