James Hall and Elizabeth (Hindman) Brown

James Hall Brown (b. Westmoreland County, PA, March 2, 1834) married Elizabeth Hindman (b. 1/10/1836 - 3/16/1897) on August 31, 1854. They were married by Rev. C.P. Cummins at the William Hindman home. James is the son of G.H.S and Mary (Hall) Brown. Elizabeth is the daughter of William Mathews and Rachel (Clugh) Hindman.

Elizabeth (Hindman) Brown Obituary: Death of Mrs. J. H. Brown. Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, wife of James H. Brown, died at her home near Roseville, in Union township, on Tuesday morning, March 16, 1897. She had been sick but a short time, but seemed to be much better. During the night her husband was awakened by a noise and looked up, when she told him her cane had fallen, and all seeming right he fell asleep again. When he awoke in the morning he found her dead, having apparently passed away without a struggle, her hands being clasped over her breast. Deceased was the mother of nine children, six of whom, four sons and two daughters, are living. All but the oldest son were at the funeral, he living in the far west. Mother Brown was beloved by all who knew her. Her funeral occurred on the 18th instant, her body being laid to rest in Bethel cemetery, near her home. March 22, 1897."

James Hall Brown Obituary contains the following info: "James Hall Brown was born in Westmoreland county, PA on March 2, 1834. In 1844, when he was 10 years of age, he came with his parents, George H. S. Brown and wife to Jefferson County, when they located in Union township, where they cleared up a farm. In 1854 he married Elizabeth Hindman. To them were born nine children. Five of them survive him... For forty years, was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church, fourteen years at Corsica, and the residue of the time at Zion appointment on the Segal charge. He died at the home of his son John S. Brown, at Kittanning, December 13th, 1910, aged 76 years."
