Inclosure Award 1808

Drawn by: Peter Brown ©

The Original Map measures 52" X 46" inches (1321mm X 1168mm). Originally drawn on cow hide, the map cannot be completely unrolled due to its age and condition. Peter, however, devised a system whereby he could copy the map in six inch (150mm) squares. Painstakingly over two years, Peter copied the map, section by section and then placing all the squares together was able to reproduce in great detail, the original 1808 map.

Peter’s reproduction of the map shows the great detail of the original map. The image here has been compressed to enable the viewer to load it quickly from the internet. It is well worth a visit to the Norfolk Records Office to view Peter’s copy of the original map in all its glory.

To enable the viewer to see this map and allow it to load it quickly, the image has been considerably compressed from its original file size. There is a small corresponding loss of clarity in the detail, but we have retained as much as we can, so that you can still clearly discern the wonderful detail that Peter captured in his drawing.
