A Window On The Past

By John Beales

Memories of Hickling mainly in the 1930s.

A Window on the Past was published in May 2004 and was written by John Beales. John was a founder member of the Hickling Local History Group, an elder of the village, and for many years was Chairman of the Parish Council.

The book relates his memories of the 1930s, together with the characters and events which shaped the village. John, like his father before him, was a Methodist Lay Preacher, and Hickling Methodism is represented in its own chapter.

John sadly passed away in October 2006, aged ninety years. The book was edited by his nephew, Rodney Wicks, also a History Group member. We are most grateful to John's family for permission to reproduce the book here for you to enjoy.

This book is now out of print.
