Geoff is the Communications and Public Relations Manager for Arizona's G&T Cooperatives which owns and operates Apache Generating Station at Cochise, south of Willcox, Arizona. He will be talking about the proposed EPA changes that will be affecting our rates. Geoff will start speaking at 7:00 PM with the Business Meeting to follow.

Minutes from General Meeting, September 10, 2012: President Diane Dunn opened the meeting held at John & Barbara Schmidt's home as the Community Center was locked and the Browns could not be reached. Diane thanked the Schmidt's for being so gracious as to invite the attendees. President Diane welcomed guest, Robert Nykamp.

Minutes, May 14, 2012 General Meeting: The minutes from the May were briefly read and approved as presented with no changes.

Treasurers Report: Walter Sigel gave an accounting of the balance which was $6429.17 with a few expenditures that included picnic supplies, Post Office Box rent, etc. With no objections the report was accepted as read.

Nominating Committee: Both Bette Green and Carl Schnabel volunteered to present the slate for elections to be held at the November Meeting. Bette was invited to attend the next Board of Directors meeting. which will be held on September 27 at the lapidary shop.

Program: Every September's meeting includes a show and tell of favorite rocks collected world-wide. Hanni Sigel brought a fossilized nautilus from one of her adventures in the Sahara Desert. Renate brought a display of rocks from the Berlin Wall. Zoe had a volcanic rock from Soufriere Volcano Monserrat, BWI., and other members had equally fascinating rocks and minerals from their travels as well. Rock samples were also brought for display.

Thank You, Barbara & John for your hospitality !

Respectfully submitted,

Zoe Schnabel, Secretary September 14, 2012

Field Trips:

September Field Trip

On Saturday September 15th, club members and guests went to an area south of Lordsburg, NM for green fluorite and crystals both in cubicle & double pointed form. Members dug and collected fluorite samples from a large hole and gathered from the ground. The search area was along the Continental Divide Trail, a National Scenic Trail.

October Field Trip

On October 20 we will head to Greaterville, AZ to pan for gold. Ann Wildauer, one of our members is a partner in a claim at the area. Greaterville is a ghost town in beautiful area in the Santa Rita Mountains. In addition to the gold, there are pieces of quartz and calcite for collecting. There are several adventure roads in the area, too. We will meet at I-10 exit 281, state route 83 to Sonoita. On the south side of the freeway there is a large “parking lot.” We will meet at 8:45 AM with departure at 9:00 AM. High clearance vehicles are needed for the last few miles. Rides and carpooling are available. Dry panning equipment will be available. Bring lunch, sun protection, water and collecting equipment.

If there are any suggestions for future field trips, please contact Henri.
