Summer is upon us and we won’t have another general meeting until September 13. However we do have a picnic and hopefully a couple of field trips to help us make it through the hot time and the Monsoon.

May Field Trip

On Saturday May 15 we went to the marble quarry near Dragoon for finger agate and another very nice agate. Pictures are available at our photo site as listed in the masthead above. March and April field trip photos are also there now.

Annual Picnic

The Club Picnic will be held on Saturday June 5 at Middlemarch Canyon. Meet at 11 am at the Community Center to caravan to the site. If you did not sign-up for the picnic at the May meeting and plan to attend, call Zoe at 826-0100 before May 27. The Club will furnish brats, rolls and sodas. If you want other drinks bring them. The remainder of the meal will be potluck – if your last name begins with A – G bring a dessert, H - P a veggie dish and Q - Z a salad or garnish. Bring lawn chairs, shade and sun protection.

Lapidary and Silversmith Classes

A work crew of club members painted our half of the lapidary/ceramics room in mid-May, covering up any particulate contamination from the previously unvented kiln. Pictures of that work session are also at the photo site. We can now resume our lapidary activities and classes, so if you’re interested call Larry Strout at 826-3991.

Dues are past due. Unpaid members were dropped on March 31. To rejoin, mail your check to Sunsites Gem & Mineral Club, PO Box 87, Pearce, Arizona 85625.
