Second Wave of Feminism

The 1970s were characterized by the Civil Rights Movement, including the rise of the Second Wave of Feminism

  • Women were officially integrated into Randolph Macon's community in 1971. The integration was found to be very quick and haphazard.
  • The admission of women created an increase in admissions to the school and the college and the student body became bigger and bigger.
  • One of the biggest problems, according to the students, was the dormitory curfew that the school tried to enforce. The students found it to be against their basic rights as adults and completely invasive. The student newspaper featured multiple news articles regarding their dissatisfaction with the president of the school at the time.
