Undergraduate Courses
PSY 3300 - Social Psychology
Introduction to the scientific study of social behavior focusing on how people relate to, think about and influence each other. Topics include attitude formation and change, social cognition, conformity, group decision-making, aggression, altruism, prejudice, and interpersonal attraction and relationships.
PSY 4330 - Psychology of Oppression
The course teaches students how to understand the mechanisms that undermine the appreciation of multiculturalism and other forms of diversity in society. The perspective emphasizes how socially constructed definitions of various groups are used to distinguish sameness and difference among people. Topics include micro- and macro-level theories of oppression, the importance of ideology in oppressive systems, and theories of social change and liberation.
CIS 2850- Principles of Data Analysis
This course teaches students to analyze data using data analysis software; it extends beyond a typical statistics course in that the emphasis is more on using software and interpretation of results than on hand calculations of statistics.
Graduate Courses
PSY 5460 - Advanced Organizational Psychology
Examination of the "psychological" study of organizations (aka Organizational Behavior). However, attention is given to a broader perspective of organizational phenomena (aka Organizational Theory) with special emphasis on systems theory as well. Students learn to describe the main paradigms/perspectives, models/theories, and/or concepts/principles for each of the main topics in Organizational Psychology. Topics include personality, motivation, leadership, organizational culture/climate, work-life interface, DEI, work performance, teams, organizational development, and organizational communication. Â
PSY 541 - Industrial Psychology (Graduate level course on Selection and Performance Management)
Examination of the issues, processes, practices, and policies involved in analyzing and evaluating a job, selecting employees, appraising/ managing performance, and the legal environment that bounds these policies and practices. Students learn how to analyze basic decisions involving staffing and performance management, alongside alternative approaches. This focus will rely heavily upon the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to selection and performance management.
PSY 6490 - Organizational Change and Development
Examination of the various theories, models, and principles underlying organizational change. An emphasis is placed on practical skill development in four areas of organizational development practice: 1) Entry and Contracting, 2) Assessment, 3) Managing the Change, and 4) Institutionalizing the change.
PSY 6390 - Social Stigma and Prejudice
Examination of the various theories, models, and research programs on social stigma and prejudice. Furthermore, an attempt is made to review material from within four dominant theoretical perspectives (i.e., SocioCultural, Evolutionary, Social Learning, and Social Cognitive). The course uses a jigsaw active learning approach whereby all students are both co-teachers and co-learners.
