Green Bellevue Trails

Connecting Neighbors and Neighborhoods:

The goal of this initiative is to create an interlocking trail system in Bellevue to provide alternative commuter pathways.

In 2011, we are working to establish bike lanes on key streets across the city. We will be seeking public support for bike lanes as we work with the City of Bellevue on this issue.

Individuals or groups who are interested in lending their public approval or support for this project are encouraged to email juliem@greenbellevue.org. We will soon post a petition so to gather names of parties supporting this project. In addition, there will be a meeting at Bellevue University on public transportation and alternatives to driving on June 7, 2011. There will be information sent out via email as well as posted on the site when the details are firmed up.

The areas where we are pursuing the creation of bike lanes are listed below:

1. Marking bike lanes on Ft. Crook Road from Capehart Road to Chandler Road;

2. Marking existing trails -- that fit the five foot width requirement -- for use by bicycles as well as pedestrians;

3. Connecting Leawood Oaks to the Stonecroft neighborhood by marking bike lanes on Lynnwood Drive and Scarborough Drive through to Capehart Road, so these neighborhoods are connected to the Keystone trail;

4. Mark Lincoln Road from Bellevue Blvd to Mission Street with a bike lane to make bicycling to Bellevue East and the Bellevue Public Library safer for students;

5. Connect Everett Park to the Lied Center and to Twin Ridge via a bicycle/walking path that can connect to the Keystone trail via 370;

6. Join the Green Meadows area to the Keystone trail via the abandoned ND Railway or, alternatively, via bike lanes on 25th Street;

7. Mark Bellevue Boulevard as a multi-use road to promote vehicles sharing the road with walkers and bicyclists in an area that lacks sidewalks.

Taking these actions in various neighborhoods of Bellevue will further Green Bellevue's goal of connecting neighborhoods for alternative transportation, as well as recreation.
