My name is Megan Liang, and this is my seventh year working for Yosemite Valley Charter School (fifth year with the TK program). Prior to working at YVCS, I was a first-grade teacher in Clovis Unified School District, a preschool teacher, intervention and reading teacher, and also spent many years as a stay-at-home mom with my two daughters (now ages 17 and 14). My husband and I have been married for 22 years and have been best friends since we were 16. We love to travel every chance we get :)
I have been a preschool Sunday school teacher at our church for around ten years, which brings me so much joy. I also spend lots of my free time serving as chair of the Patient and Family Centered Care Advisory Committee at Valley Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In this role, I will be supporting a read-a-thon to encourage families to read to their babies. I also help coordinate various events and activities for patients and families, advocate for families to make sure they are receiving support and feel heard, and I teach a class at Valley Children’s called, “Sibling Sundae,” where siblings of babies in the NICU come together and learn about different NICU medical equipment, and things they are seeing and experiencing. We make crafts together, share in meaningful conversations, and enjoy an ice cream sundae. It is a wonderful time where I feel I have the opportunity to give back to the hospital as a former NICU mama myself.
If I am not working or volunteering, I am watching my daughters participate in the activities they love to do, such as tennis, karate, piano, basketball, badminton, percussion, and serving at church.
I am excited for another great year supporting and encouraging our TK families. TK is a unique year where I hope families make special memories, cherish time at home together, and with my support, lay a foundation for a love of learning for our littlest learners.
