Sports in College: NCAA
Many of our student athletes plan to continue to participate in sports at the college level. Some will want to join a club team in college and remain active while balancing their time between academics and outside interests. Other athletes would prefer to play intercollegiate sports while in college and compete with teams from other colleges and universities. If you are interested in participating in athletics at a Division I or II level, athletes must meet certain eligibility requirements set by the NCAA. Interested student athletes need to create a certification account with the NCAA. Division III eligibility requirements are set by the school.
We advise students, who are considering participating in division I or II sports, to become familiar with the NCAA Eligibility Center website, eligibility requirements, the list of NCAA approved high school courses, and the timeline of when to register online through the NCAA Eligibility Center. We also encourage student athletes to reach out to prospective college coaches with questions as you explore your options.

SAT/ACT: In January 2023, NCAA Divisions I and II adopted legislation to remove standardized test scores from initial-eligibility requirements for all student-athletes who initially enroll full time on or after August 1, 2023. Check with the NCAA school you plan to attend regarding whether standardized test scores are necessary for admission or scholarship requirements. For more information, click here.

Note: Occasionally, a college coach who is recruiting a high school sophomore may recommend that they register and take the SAT or ACT in their sophomore year. This is infrequent. Discuss with your counselor and review the NCAA eligibility center if you are being recruited by a college coach.
