Governance and Committees

Graduate School Board (GSB)

The Graduate School Board (GSB) is the committee within the department which oversees all postgraduate student programmes, both taught and research. Officially, it is a subcommittee of the Board of Studies, which is the committee which covers all department activities involving students. The GSB has its own meetings, usually once per term. At each regular meeting, there is an “open” agenda, involving all board members including the student reps, and there is then a “closed” agenda, which involves the staff only, where confidential matters or matters involving any particular individual are considered.

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee leads the department on promotion, celebration and awareness of EDI issues. The Committee meets regularly providing an effective forum for discussions and analyses of EDI data. The Chair informs and directly influences departmental practices to ensure EDI principles are embedded, and advises Board of Studies on issues of EDI practices in teaching and support implementation. If you have an EDI concern or an idea for action, you are welcome to raise it with your supervisor or contact the EDI Chair directly - heather.marsden@york.ac.uk
